Marine Technology and Education

Marine Marine Library Programs Education

Environmental and natural resources issues are important to the natural resources based communities of Southwest Washington.  Marine education programs for youth include workshops and classroom sessions on marine life of the Washington coast.  WSU Extension and Washington Sea Grant further educate the public through event displays in southwest Washington which emphasize shellfish culture, water quality, and marine education, increasing awareness of marine resources issues.

Seafood Quality and Safety

Poor quality products cost the Washington seafood industry over $4 million annually in lost sales and wastage.  Seafood quality is an impediment to increased per capita seafood consumption in the Northwest.  Improper seafood handling and storage by fishermen, processors, retailers, and consumers, causes loss of quality, reduced economic value, wastage, reduced sales, and potential safety problems.

Through Extension programs, consumers and volunteers may receive training, technical assistance and information regarding seafood quality control, safety, handling and utilization techniques.
